Introduction

This mod was developed when I lost my Internet access for over 24 hours recently. Since TNG is using more and more jQuery scripts, TNG has limited functionality on a localhost web server because the computer had no Internet connection

This mod is provided to make it easier to set TNG as working offline, without having to manually edit the config.php and hunt for the option to allow use of jQuery offline.

This could also be handy if you are at a family reunion at a park and want to show your relatives information from your genealogy web site. It simply sets the Setup > General Settings > Miscellaneous section option to indicate that you are working offline.

What I am using TNG offline means

This is very important information!

Let me try to clarify what I am using TNG offline = Yes is meant to provide.

• First it is not meant to be enabled on Internet hosted websites, nor on local computers unless your Internet access is down or not available. That is the purpose of my $Use TNG Offline mod which you can install when you lose Internet access
• TNG uses jQuery from code.jquery.com to provide the toggles on the public side as well as the Admin Setup > General Settings page for example. So that site is not available when the Internet is down.
• Darrin added the "I am using TNG offline" option to TNG on my request so that I could continue to use my local computer to work on my site when my internet service is not available.
• The option bypasses any internet access calls when it is enabled. Enabling that option means jQuery is used locally and maps are not available because they come from the Internet
• The option is useful when you take a laptop to a family reunion at a park or some other location that does not have internet access so you can show your local web site to relatives

Hope that helps clarify what the I am using TNG offline is meant to provide. It is not meant to be enable just because you are on a local computer. You should download the mod and save it to your mods folder so you can install it if you are in an area where your internet is not available or where you have internet outages.

Advantages

Since TNG is using more and more jQuery scripts, you may have major problems using your localhost web server if your computer has no Internet connection:

• None of the Toggles work because they depend on jQuery which TNG gets off the internet which is not available.

• Not able to change Setup > General Settings to indicate working off line, because you cannot toggle open the Miscellaneous section

• None of the jQuery script functions used in TNG - drag and drop, image tag, etc. will be working

• You will have to manually edit the config.php and update the offline option to

$tngconfig['offline'] = "1";

This mod is provided to make it easier to set TNG as working offline. • A backup of your TNG config.php file.

Automated Installation

1. Download the appropriate zip file from the Mod Summary in the upper right hand corner
2. After downloading the zip file, unzip the config file into the mods folder on your local computer web server only
3. Do not install the mod. It is provided so that you can easily and quickly mark TNG as working offline when you have no Internet access
