Purpose of the mod

This TNG modification adds an application for viewing locations where events of the types selected from the menu have taken place.

The menu presents event types in three groups: Basic Events, Other Individual Events, and Other Family Events. Events for which the locations are not known, or those locations are few (option), are grayed out or hidden (option) in the menu. You can also disable some event types by the mod option.

The places found for the selected event types are presented in a table, where you can sort them according to the number of associated events. If among the selected event types are funerals or other events related to the commemoration of the deceased (listed in the mod option), additional information is displayed; this is because originally, the main function of the application was to replace the Cemeteries page.

The application is called through the button on the TNG Places page inserted by the mod.

Notes on the list of excluded event types

The list of event types excluded from Eventplaces allows you to reduce the menu from which event types are selected. However, preparing the list “by hand” in the mod options (or editing directly in the .inc file) can be cumbersome, especially when you have to type in a lot of event type descriptions. So I introduced the possibility of modifying this list within the administrative function of editing Event / Attribute Types: exclusion from Eventplaces is just an additional event type attribute there (only for custom events, of course).

Each event type description is parsed to detect whether it starts with a tag-like character sequence; in that case, only that found tag is taken into account. Note: no distinction is made between event types associated to individual or family if the same tag/description is used.

Visualization of this mod

My event menu is quite extensive, as I have a relatively large number (several dozen) of custom event types coming from the PC program from which I use to import all data into TNG. Thus, only basic events are here unfolded in the visualization. Event types for which less than 1 place was found were hidden, i.e., if there is any one known place the event option is active. I've allowed LDS events, but no one is actually active.

Mod Conflicts

The application introduced by the mod is very loosely coupled with the TNG system - mainly by reading some TNG tables - so it should not conflict with other mods, and should also work with earlier versions of TNG (unfortunately, I don't have a right environment to be sure). However, version 2 further modifies a couple of admin pages, which may cause conflicts with some mods.

Installation

1. Click on the download link shown in the summary in the upper right corner of the page.

Note: if the download link doesn't work for your browser, you can copy the link and paste it to a new window.

1. Un-zip the file.
2. Move/copy/FTP the .cfg file and the Eventplaces_2 folder to the mods folder of your TNG system.
3. Follow the normal automated installation for Mod Manager, as shown in the example Mod Manager - Installing Config Files to install the mod.

In the event of a problem

• Try using the Mod Manager Remove capability.
• Copy the backup of the affected files back to your TNG directory.
• Retry installing mod.
• Contact us through the Topic on the TNG Community Forum.

Uninstalling the mod

Click the Uninstall button.
If you want to completely Remove this mod and all its files, you should also

• click the Delete button to delete the config file from the mods folder
• remove "by hand" the mod folder ('Eventtypes_3' folder under the TNG mods folder) and all files inside it
• remove "by hand" the file eventtypes.inc placed in the extensions folder.

Upgrade

• Uninstall and eventually Delete the current Mod. In some cases (when hinted in the upgrade) delete the existing .inc file.
• Proceed as for an installation with the new Mod. If you keep the .inc your default parameters will remain unchanged.
