Purpose of Mod
When searching for and viewing a Place (placesearch.php), the user is presented with a list of events associated with the place. In some circumstances the ‘standard’ events (Birth, Christening, Marriage, Death and Burial) can be listed more than once. This happens for either or both of the following reasons:
- when an imported GEDCOM includes events that have subsidiary data such as ‘Age’, ‘Address’ or (in the case of Death) ‘Cause’. TNG interprets these data as a ‘custom’ event and gives rise to a second listing of the associated event. The same data entered directly into TNG does not result in such a ‘duplicate’ listing of the event.
- an event may be created more than once if there is conflicting data regarding the date of the event
The mod excludes from the place search list such pseudo, duplicate events that arise with some data imported by GEDCOM.
Who can benefit from this mod?
- Anyone managing their data with a desktop genealogy application and importing their data by GEDCOM to TNG.
- Anyone appending GEDCOM data to that already entered directly into TNG.
Data entered directly into TNG does not result in 'duplication' of events in a place search list.

Automated Installation

- Extract the downloaded zip file to your 'mods folder.
- Follow the normal automated installation for Mod Manager, as shown in the example Mod Manager - Installing Config Files to install the appropriate source_title_display.cfg file.
Manual Edit Options
It is important that you set the 'Accept' option in Admin >> Custom_Event_Types >> Edit_Existing_Event_Type for the 'standard' event tags BIRT, CHR, MARR, DEAT and BURI. If you import your data by GEDCOM, unless you set 'Accept' for these tags, any supplementary data you have entered for these events will not be imported or displayed.
