How to: Create a military service report

General information regarding the "report" function in TNG

  • for this example I will be using data taken from Vietnam Service report page

Purpose

To illustrate how to use the report creation function for custom events using the TNG Admin >> Reports function. Report create new.jpg

TNG Admin Reports provides an easy way to create custom reports. The following is an example of creating a Military Service report.

Report of interest

Vietnam Service Event document

For this example I will be focusing on a Vietnam service report. Notice that only deceased veterans are shown, unless you are logged in.

Military Service Event

You must define a Military Service Custom Event or import the custom events from your desktop software program and accept the Military Service event.

Vietnam service

You have to develop a convention that allows separating different wars if you want to create a report for those who served in World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam for example.

The following image shows a Vietnam Military Service event.

The following image shows a couple of Military Service event, but I only created the TNG report for the World War II service event shown as highlighted.

WWII service event.jpg

Notice that some entries on my web site do not show Vietnam under the Military Service: Fact column. That is because initially I was using the Military Service: Place column. Once TNG added Google Map support, I started using the custom event Description or Fact field and specifying the war as the first part of the field.

Step by Step instructions

Define a Title and Description

You should define a short title and description for your report. For example, the following is one used for a Vietnam Military Service report.

For this example I will be focusing on creating a report of those who served during the Vietnam War.

Notice that in my description I added information to let the user know that Living Vietnam Veterans are not shown in the report.
