There are multiple testing approaches available to test TNG. Each of which has Pros and Cons.

  • Using a different directory structure
  • Using WampServer on your local computer
  • Using a test domain

Different Directory

Using a different directory structure with the same TNG database involves a risk of corrupting one's database when testing changes that update the database.

This approach might be used as a quick and dirty approach for making minor changes to a web site.

WampServer

Using WampServer on your local computer provides you with an isolated testing environment.

The major negative is that if you need help, other users are unable to view information on your test web site.

Test Domain

Using a test domain has the negative of duplicating your TNG environment. Over time as you add more media, this could end up using a lot of your hosting service space.

You also have to block the search engines from indexing your test domain.
