Description

I've had trouble getting large images to zoom and pan in the TNG Imageviewer. It just never seems to work, and the amount of real estate taken by the Imageviewer itself limits the size I can display in my browser.

Zoompan is a mod that adds a "full_screen" icon to the TNG image viewer whenever an image is the source file.

Clicking on the icon opens a new window with the image viewed against a black background, much like census images are viewed in Ancestry. The initial size will be the lesser of the browser window or the image itself.

If the image is larger than the browser window it will initially be reduced to fit, but can be zoomed (mouse wheel) and panned (mouse-down) to see the detail.

The image screen can be combined with the F11 key to get rid of the browser controls and show the image even larger. I normally save census images in their full size, so for me the zoomed detail is very good.

It is also handy for documents if you've saved them in their original sizes, or at least greater in size and resolution than a normal browser window requires.

Perhaps high-resolution gravestone images that are hard to read might also benefit. The visitor chooses when to use it.

The "full-screen" icon does not appear in the TNG Imageviewer with mobile devices because they have their own ability to zoom and pan.

This mod is very light weight. For convenience, the PHP, CSS and Javascript are all combined in a single "zoompan.php" script, and the mod only updates one TNG file (showmedialib.php).

Installation

1. Uninstall and delete previous version of this mod (if installed)
2. Download the appropriate zip file as shown in the mod summary in the upper right corner of the page.
3. Extract the file from the downloaded zip file into the mods folder or FTP the extracted file to your mods folder.
4. Follow the normal automated installation for Mod Manager, as shown in the example Mod Manager - Installing Config Files to install the mod.

In the event of a problem

• Try using the Mod Manager Remove capability.
• Copy the backup of the affected files back to your TNG directory.
• Retry installing mod.
• Contact us through Support for Zoompan_Mod.

Uninstalling the mod

If you want to completely Remove (uninstall) this mod and all its tables, you should

1. click the Uninstall button to uninstall the mod
2. click the Delete button to delete the config file from the mods folder.

Upgrade

• Uninstall and eventually Delete the current Mod.
• Proceed as for an installation with the new Mod.
