D-Fend Reloaded is a front-end to DosBox, the popular DOS emulator. It lets you install and run many DOS games and applications directly from its interface without ever touching a DOS prompt. It works great on XP, Vista, and Windows 7 32 & 64-bit versions, which no longer provide a DOS environment.

You might have some DOS-based applications that provided some genealogy databases, which have not been upgraded for Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows 7. D-Fend Reloaded will allow you to run those programs again.

You can Download D-Fend Reloaded from this link. D-Fend Reloaded installs and works fine on Vista Home Edition 64-bit.

TNG User Related feedback

  • I had a CD version of a 7-volume genealogy marriage index that was search-able by groom or bride name. It did not work on Vista 64-bit since there is no longer a DOS capability. I tried DosBox and while it allowed me to run that DOS database application, it was not very friendly to setup. With D-Fend Reloaded it was a simple matter of dragging the DOS application directory structure into the D-Fend Reloaded Games and Application window. --Ken Roy 21:53, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
