TNG has added Heat Maps to the Places, Surnames, and Search results pages.

From the TNG V11 Change Log

61 Places: Heat maps have been added to the Places, Surnames and Search Results pages to show the global distribution of surnames and places.

From the TNG Blog

Heat Maps: Color codes on the Places, Surnames and Search Results pages now show the global distribution of surnames and places.

Definition of Heat Map

A heat map is a graphical representation of data where the individual values contained in a matrix are represented as colours.

From places.php the "Heat Map" link appears under the Search box. This seems to almost duplicate the functionality of the World Map Mod - except what places to show can't be chosen.

Visualization

Places

You can use the Heat Map button on the Places screen to get a Heat Map of places that are geocoded. Note that the Heat Map will not show places that do not have a latitude and longitude coded.

You can use the Heat Map button on the Surnames search result screen to get a Heat Map of places the people with the surname lived, if the places are geocoded, i.e the places have a latitude and longitude assigned.
