Note that TextWrangler has been replaced by BareBones' product [http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/bbedit12.html BBEdit0, which has all the same capabilities, and more, as TextWrangler. There is a free version, and a paid version with even more features.
TextWrangler is a must have software for any Macintosh user who makes any changes to their TNG site and its underlying files. The features I use most are:
• "Compare Two Front Documents" which allows you to compare 2 versions of a file and have the difference highlighted, allowing you to merge differences from one to the other.
• TextWrangler "understands" a variety of programming languages, and will colour code elements of syntax in a file - be it PHP, HTML or other languages. See above screen shot. Recognised PHP functions are coloured blue, strings are in pink, etc
• Lets you choose the encoding for a file.
