GrandPa Vic Spencer 1885-1977

Tim Spencer lives in Duncan on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. He was born in Ilford, Essex after the war, spending his first year in Gants Hill, then five years in Chichester followed by five years in Bognor Regis. His family emigrated to Canada in 1957. He is retired from teaching High School Computer Science, Maths, and Science in Nelson, British Columbia.

  • His father Henry Lee Spencer, elementary school Headmaster, was born and raised in Plaistow in the East End of London. Henry served six years in the Royal Tank Corps, then six in the Royal Armoured Corps during WW II. He was captured May 1940 during the gallant defense of Calais and held prisoner at Thorne in Poland.
  • His ancestors have been traced back to Horsham, Sussex in the 1600's; they were farmers and publicans in Hartfield, Sussex in the 1700's, making their way up into London as the 1800's wore on.
  • His mother, Kathleen Thompson, RSN, RFN, SCM, was born and raised on Shaneragh townland near Dromore, County Tyrone in Ireland. Trained in London during the 1930's, she returned to Ireland for the duration of WWII where she was Matron of Omagh Hospital, County Tyrone, there delivering more than 200 babies.
  • Her ancestors have been traced back to the area near Drumquin, County Tyrone in the 1700's; one supposes they emmigrated from the Scottish Borders area during one of the Irish Plantations.
  • Tim's TNG Web site, using template 7, is part of his Tyrone Thompson / Sussex Spencer Family History
